CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

You have a name but wear a number
And exist caged in a cell.
No remorse you have inside
Or fear the wrath of hell.

You took a life of another
Choosing your own destiny.
Now you sit and wonder why
Your life means nothing to me.

Should we set you free
And fear your every action?
Whose hands will carry the blood
When you kill for satisfaction?

Or keep you in a cell for life
And feed you every day;
When the money would be better spent
Giving the homeless a place to stay?

Capital punishment is the question
And do we have the right
To give someone a lethal injection
And end their very life?

I think our system is gentle
For you don't face a knife or gun;
No torment or pain inflicted
Or suffering for the act you have done.

This may sound heartless to you
But I really am not that way.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
For your inhumane action you pay.

I do not say it's for closure
For in pain the door never shuts.
The loved ones of your victim
Have a suffering your death couldn't touch.

I'm only stating what I believe
And justice should be done.
So you will never have chance
To harm another one.

The murder you took into your hands
Was a violation of humanity.
It isn't my place to forgive you, it's God's
As you face your destiny.
