I’d love to give you many things
If only that I could.
If I could make a perfect world
No doubt I surely would.
I know the way you feel inside
Because I’ve been there to.
Wishing others would see your heart
And love you just for you.
But the first thing you have to do
Is to learn to love yourself.
That’s probably the hardest thing.
I’m still learning how myself.
I know you might not understand
What I am about to say.
But listen very carefully
Because you will someday.
The things you are living today
Are all in one great plan.
God chooses many teachers,
Protecting them with His hand.
A teacher of things not learned in books.
Compassion and love for others.
You’ll have no tolerance for abuse
Sheltering the weak just like a cover.
You will look in the eyes of a child
And see what most folks don’t.
You’ll be the first to fight for their rights
When everyone else won’t.
When you see an angry child
Lashing out in need of attention,
You’ll love them unconditionally
And calm them with affection.
When you see a homeless man
Who is suffering from the cold,
You’ll warm him with your body heat
Bringing life to a dying soul.
When you meet someone in life
You won’t see disfigurements at all.
But put your arms around them
And help them to stand tall.
You won’t see others with your eyes
But only through your heart.
Giving them strength they need within
To face a brand new start.
There’s nothing that I can really do
That will help you along life’s way.
Just believe this path you are walking
Are God’s lessons you will teach someday.
