SOME THIRTY YEARS AGO

I'm sitting here so overwhelmed
There are things I'd like to say.
I feel at such a loss for words
I cannot find a way.

Many attempts to take my life;
Loneliness with desperate tears.
No place to belong in this world
A waste of childhood years.

If I had known one Soldier
Way back when I was young
I would have known without a doubt
I was cared for by someone.

I saw a picture of a Soldier
It was taken in Viet Nam.
Giving candy to kids in the street
From that moment my heart was won.

Although in hell and far from home
He had a smile upon his face.
The tender loving side of him
Had kept its beauty and grace.

I can't go back some thirty years
But I'm thankful we survived
Because now I know a Soldier
And how you've blessed my life.

Thank you and welcome home!
