I MET A MAN...
I met a man along life's way.
He was carrying a heavy load.
Shoulders that were weighted down,
Many secrets he kept, untold.
Sunken spots with dark shadows
The pain had marked its place.
A roadmap of the past endured
Stood out upon his face.
But still he carried a smile.
Never once appeared to look back.
How could he focus on the day ahead,
Determined to stay on track?
He told me nightmares haunt him
In the stillness of the night.
So powerful they have their way
Causing him such a fight.
But he never allowed the suffering
Of the night or days gone by.
To rob him of the pride inside;
To believe that he survived.
Strength will take its place he said,
Overriding the torture of night.
The gift of God's new sunrise
Has control over Satan's plight.
It isn't how you face the darkness,
The fears and days of old,
But that you see a new day born
And the treasure that it holds.
