They are such simple things we were told
When we were just kids... and not very old
Words to the wise, we remember them, yet
There are some times that we do forget
Clean your plate... others have none
Don't sit inside... go play in the sun
God has been good, you have many toys
Be generous, share with other girls and boys
Honor Mom and Pop and sisters and brothers
As you would have done, so do unto others
Underestimate not, the power of a word
Because what you say may not be what's heard
It's a cognizant thing and not acting weak
When you take a breath and turn your cheek
Don't slam a door without an about face
Open a window, in or out, just in case
Perhaps the most important thing to report
These lessons make clear that life is so short
We take for granted, when all things seem fine
This God given gift that we know as time
Don't waste a moment, so precious are they
Don't wait till tomorrow... do it today.
