ROUND ONE

You are drifting in the valley
I am marching up the hill
I am reaching towards the sunshine
While you say, you've caught a chill

I am waltzing in the meadow
I am dancing in the breeze
You are looking towards the forest
You're suspicious of the trees

I say, "Stop and smell the roses"
You say, "See that crown of thorns"
I say, "Try and count your blessings"
You say, "Evil never warns"

You are sitting at table
With a look you can't disguise
We're both trying to be honest
Maybe reach a compromise

I am standing by the curtains
As you try to keep them shut
I think, "Open the damn window'
But I keep my big mouth shut

I say, " Stop and smell the roses!"
You say "Those thorns really hurt
I say "We could plant some tulips
You chide, "You must stay alert"

Then we go sit on the sofa
Plan a trip to Mexico
You say, "We'll just up and vanish,
Do it soon or I can't go!"

But the thing is, as we planned it
I saw every part with you,
It was just a perfect picture,
I would draw again with you.

And then we could up and vanish
To the Coast or to Belize
I can tiptoe down the shoreline
And you can look out on the trees.

ROUND ONE
(Revision)

You are drifting in the valley
I am trudging up the hill
And I shiver in the sunshine
While you say, you've caught a chill

I am wandering in the meadow
I am wind-blown in the breeze
You are looking towards the forest
You're suspicious of the trees

I say, "Stop and smell the roses"
You say, "See that crown of thorns"
I say, " Jesus, Where's Your Moses?"
You say, "Evil never warns"

You are sitting at table
With a look you can't disguise
We're both trying to be honest
Then we reach a compromise

I am standing by the curtains
As you try to keep them shut
I think, "Open the damn window'
But I keep my big mouth shut

I say, " Stop and smell the roses!"
You say "Those thorns really hurt
I say "We could plant some tulips
Then you say "I bought desert"

And you go into the kitchen
Bring me back some Pecan Pie
It's the reason I adore you
It's the reason you're my guy.

Then we go sit on the sofa
Plan a trip to Ohnono
You say, "We'll just up and vanish,
Do it soon or I can't go!"

But the thing is, as we planned it
I saw every part with you,
It was such a perfect picture,
I would draw again with you.

And then we could up and vanish
Down some Coast or to Belize
I can tiptoe down the shoreline
And you can look out on the trees.
