EVIL

When I was young, I heard it warned
Beware the evil eye
Make sure it does not look at you
For it will make you cry

But I was brash and I quite naïve
And so I chose to stare
And soon enough I came to see
Bad demons waiting there

I did not see one evil eye
The thing I saw had two
Though just a child, I plainly saw
It looked like me or you.

A child, alone and so confused
All tangled up with fear
Some nights, I tried to fight head on
He would not disappear.

I did not wish to flirt with evil
But could not help my stare.
To meet those demons – Bam – head-on
Could I survive the glare?

I did not wish to dance with evil
Asleep but still aware
I could not turn my head from evil
Pretend it wasn't there

And still, I get confused with evil
All tangled up with fear
And though I'm scared, I fight head on
It whispers in my ear

You see, I know what evil is.
And yes, I know what's good
But some things we cannot predict
And could-a, should-a, would

Will never let me sleep at night
If evil's at the door
'Cause even when he's sent away
He just comes back for more

"I do not wish to fight at all"
The Coward says in me
"No! It will do no good at all
It's Evil! Let it be."

But then I found your company
It's 'cause of you I've learned
To pick my battles carefully
Where Evil is concerned

I know you're not afraid of Evil
You'd knock him on his head
And if you saw E hurting me
I know you'd shoot him dead

Yeah, you would knock E on his Ass
You'd make him show respect
When evil dares to show his face
That's something you'd correct

I know you're not afraid of Evil
You'd knock him on his nose
And you would use the proper tools
To make sure that he goes

Like me, you watch for Evil's walk
I know you've seen his face
You've made sure E does not take hold
Stand rooted to this place

I do not wish to talk to Evil
Instead I talk to you
Perhaps we'll share a greater good
Together, we can do

The things that poets write about
Find love – we both deserve
'Cause both of us have paid our dues
While on this learning curve

I do not wish to talk of Evil
Or let him take control
And so I grab on to your hand
You've helped me find my soul
