ALL THROUGH

All through the night I wanted to call
All through the night I heard the rain fall
And thought to myself, there must be a leak
But it wasn’t so – just tears on my cheek

All through the day I thought maybe you
Would bend towards the stairs or maybe review
The words we both spoke – that broke us apart
All through the day I sheltered my heart

By petting my cats and tending to chores
I watched my new kitten come up from all fours
And balance himself on two kitten feet
Although he was scared, he managed to eat

He quickly forgave the ones who would hiss
He started to purr and gave Jazz a Kiss
All through the day and all through the night
I think to myself – can this be the fight

That turns into straw, that severs the back,
That tumbles the cards, piled up in a stack
That takes on momentum, a life of its own,
That puts out the flame that once brightly shone

All through the night I prayed for a sign
A signal, A voice, some light from Divine
That gave me a clue or method to cope
Or replaced in me some small shred of hope

But daylight is here, the sun’s in her prime
The clock on my wall says I’m out of time
So all through the day again I will wait
And hope against hope, it isn’t too late.
