Why do I learn it the hard way?
Tell me why growth has to hurt
Why can’t I grow up the fun way
No Castor Oil… Just dessert!!!

Why does the right way of passage
always cost more than it should?
I try to play by commandments
Try so dam hard to be good

Only to find that old adage
“If I am nice I am last”
watch has my poor heart gets broken
and my poor brain wears a cast

Why are electives less credit?
Why are requirements tough?
I think I’ll start cutting classes.
I think I’ve learned quite enough.

People will look at me wisely
Tell me “with no pain no gain”
I say “shut up – don’t advise me”
I think that saying’s inane

I think it’s all there inside me
Someday I’ll probably know
why it’s called The Cost of Living
It’s so expensive to grow
