HAPPY NEW YEAR

We now have a bright New Year
A time of hope, wonder and cheer
But allow me just a slight digress
Toward those demanding my redress

Some say I should forget
Pratfalls and failures I have met
Live my life in ignorant bliss
In dreamy stupor, as love's first kiss

Others claim I should repent
As by guilt, my heart be rent
My head hung low in subjugation
Never more to feel sublime elation

Each side would reprove my lot
But both seem to have forgot
I am this person before you today
Because of lessons learned along the way
