REFLECTIONS

I have been around the world
I have seen many a fantastic thing
And when my flag is unfurled
I know the meaning of “Let freedom ring”

I have known people far and near
Even made love to a few
And learned no love is as dear
As the love shared between just two

I have held each infant son
And thanked God for giving such joy
But cried like a grieving one
When each daughter married a boy

Times can be so very bad
And yet so very sweet
What seems unkind to the youthful lad
Lays wisdom at an old man’s feet
