MEMORIAL DAY

It has often been said
Death visits all in due time
How terrible it is
When taken in their prime

No conflict is holy
That takes the young life
But the one who gives willingly
Adds honor to strife

Such great hopes for mankind
Our progeny and ourselves
Cut short for what purpose
Only the historian will delve

We were your smartest
Your best, young and brave
The hope of your future
Now we hallow the grave

Remember us well
And when you pray
Ask for a time
When peace rules the day
