BEHIND A CHURCH

Behind a church in Birchardville
A young man, Ezra, is at rest
A flag adorns his weathered marker
A somber memorial to our nation's best

Past his stone we marched today
Rifle, sword or flag in hand
Spoke words of prayer in our humble way
For all alike this twenty two-year young man

He gave his life for this great nation
His sacrifice insured all are free
May we always honor the memory
Of our dead and that boy who died in 1863
