THE BATTLE OF LITTLE BIGHORN

The wind blows thru the Montana grassland
That surrounds the Little Bighorn Battlefield
It swirls around the many rows of stones
That are reminders of those who were killed

This memorial is the final resting place
For many of the men of the Seventh Cavalry
They would meet their fate in June 1876
And this battle will live forever in history

Most of the men were battle hard veterans
And some of them were new to the West
But against those overwhelming odds
Each of them died giving his very best

Indians call it the Battle of the Greasy Grass
But historians call it Caster’s Last Stand
For it was here that Custer lost his life
Along with 268 men under his command

The lone survivor was the horse Comanche
Although he was badly wounded and worn
Through the years he stood as a symbol
Of the Battle of the Little Bighorn
