GIFTS OF LIFE
The gifts of life can be good or bad
Some make us happy some make us sad.
As you and I grew up, we received many things
Some we can remember and some are now with wings.
Of all the gifts that I received
Some were material things and some were only perceived
The ones that we cherish the most now I believe
Are not the material ones, but the ones perceived.
Material gifts were nice and appreciated but lost their shine
But the perceived ones make us remember those that left us behind
A wagon, a toy pistol, a doll, a dress, or even a pair of gloves,
But the perceived ones are special for example those that gave love.
I love you is always nice to hear someone say
But how many mean it when you hear them today?
You think you can count on one hand those that count you a true friend
But I think I would have to take off my shoes to count all of mine again.
A wife or husband, a child will love you till the end
And so will those you count as a close friend.
But the best gift of all is God’s love given from above
Given to each of us on the wings of a dove.
