ONE OF THE BEST BIRTHDAYS I EVER HAD
‘Twas my finest birthday party that day I turned sixty five
I survived to collect the pensions, it meant I was still alive
They clawed back my Army Pension, and that to me was new
My VAC disability pension was a blessing, as it came through
I got my municipal police cheque and then received the OAP
And then they gave me the Canada Pension, which is not free
We paid for these pensions for year after year
And now that I collect them I won’t shed a tear
I had left the front desk down at HQ, CSPD
And worked for a charity full time, as you see
So my sixty fifth birthday made me very happy
It and the 649 lotto made me free from poverty

THE BEST BIRTHDAY I EVER HAD
On September 28th 1958 I reached the benchmark age of seventeen
That finally meant, I could join up, to serve my Country and Queen
I worked at EB Eddy’s and gave Mom half of my pay
And as a young soldier I made an assignment right away
Mom had nine kids and my dad drank quite a lot
So very little money my Mother ever really got
Joining the Army I was able to help out my Mom
To not help her out that would have been wrong
That was the best birthday that I ever really had
But my joining the Army was not liked by my Dad
I gave six-weeks notice when I quit my job at the Mill
On the 14th of November I joined of my own free will
Saying good bye to sixteen and my job at White Swan
I got on the passenger train and soon I was gone
So that was the best birthday that I ever had
Farewell to Ottawa, my heart was quite glad
